I have new features and research for you.

Feature updates

I rolled out some great new features to Spelling Test Buddy over the past week. These were based on direct feedback from you all.

• You can now choose whether the list is shuffled when taking the test:

• You can now add words directly to a list. This is great for when the photo didn't pick up a word

• When a word is played, a little green checkmark appears next to it. This is a nice visual indicator for the student that they heard the word

Some things I am working on that will come soon:

• Support PDF uploads of word lists

• Ability to edit words in a list

• Take the test right in the app, and have your results tracked per wordlist

New research

I wrote a blog post, "Does technology make learning spelling unnecessary?". It's a quick summary of the research presented in Richard Gentry and Gene Ouellete's Brain Words: How the Science of Reading Informs Teaching. This blog post is a starting point: I plan to update and refine it over time and create free resources from it as the research develops.
